Systems, stories,
and the patterns underneath.
I'm Alterrell — a writer, data practitioner, and diagnostics builder based in New York. My work focuses on the structural patterns underneath organizations, culture, and behavior: how problems form, perpetuate, and remain even when people can see them clearly.
For fifteen years I worked inside Fortune 100 companies and startups — Tesla, Walmart, American Express — across operations, strategy, partnerships, and leadership roles. Being inside those systems changed how I think about institutions and how misalignment originates at the top and trickles through every layer beneath it.
The three platforms on this site explore similar questions from different angles:
- Alterrell Interactive focuses on data storytelling, civic analysis, and interactive projects that make structural patterns easier to see.
- The Mills Mirror focuses on founder diagnostics, organizational behavior, and the interpersonal dynamics that shape teams and companies.
- Systems & Perspectives is where I publish essays and medium-length videos about culture, institutions, media, power, identity, and contemporary life.
I publish regularly and think in terms of long-term intellectual artifacts rather than short-term attention spans. I care about making work that stays useful over time and helps people recognize patterns they already sensed but couldn't fully name yet. The backlog is a library, not a debt.
